NIEU-BETHESDA NEWS - Barbara Vaaltyn, principal of Lettie de Klerk Primary School in Nieu-Bethesda, participated in the National Teaching Awards in Johannesburg yesterday (Wednesday 21 September) after she was awarded the first position at district, cluster and finally provincial level.
Principals from all Eastern Cape districts participated at provincial level and Vaaltyn was announced provincial award winner in the category "Excellence in Primary School Leadership" at a dinner gala last week Thursday.
The National Teaching Awards was launched in 2000 and now enters its twenty-second year of implementation.
It is one of the ways in which the Department of Basic Education acknowledges the extraordinary efforts made by excellent teachers, often in very difficult conditions.
National winners will be announced at a national ceremony hosted by the Minister of Basic Education and addressed by the president of South Africa.
