KAROO NEWS - Following vehement opposition by several stakeholders, the proposed name changes to Graaff-Reinet and three more Karoo towns were rejected by the newly appointed Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture, Gayton McKenzie.
McKenzie is a member of the South African Council for Geographical Names that rejected the name changes earlier this month, largely due to insufficient public input on the merit of the name changes.
The changes were vehemently opposed by several stakeholders, primarily on the basis of lack of transparency and public participation.
