GRAAFF-REINET - The long-serving chairperson of the Midland Car Club in Graaff-Reinet, Charl Venter, has recently decided to step down as chairperson of this 20-year-old club.
Charl has been at the helm of the club since its establishment in 1999.
To fill the void left by Charl's resignation, the club called a general meeting in February, at which a new committee was elected.
Various other club matters were also discussed at the meeting, one of which was a suggestion that Charl and his wife Wendy be made honourary members of the club.
This idea was enthusiastically accepted by all the club members.
The new committee is very excited about the club's future, with many excursions and events being planned for the near future.
Among these is a trip to Victoria West to support the town's annual car show on Saturday, 16 March, followed by a lunch outing that Sunday, the 17th, at the Coldstream Restaurant in Graaff-Reinet.
Some of the members will also be making the trip down to the Garden Route in April to attend the prestigious Knysna Car Show on the 28th.
The highlight of the events planned, however, will be the club's own car show, which will be held in September, in conjunction with the bi-annual Collectors' Fair, which will this year be held at Laer Volkskool.
Classic car enthusiasts eager to become a part of the club, can obtain a membership application form at the ReCollection Rides museum in College Road, Graaff-Reinet.
