KAROO NEWS - Dr. Beyers Naudé Local Municipality (DBNLM), in partnership with the SA National Aids Council Men's Sector and the SA Men's Forum, are calling on men and boys to respect women's bodies and the rule of law.
This follows recent reports that showed that gender-based violence and femicide in the region are on the increase.
The organisations are calling for vigilance and accountability from all males.
The forums and the municipality are asking males to come up with solutions and to advance the resolutions of the 2022 National Men's Parliament to reestablish Street Champions in their communities.
At a joint sitting on 8 August, DBNLM decided the following:
- to establish a Dr. Beyers Naude Men's Sector;
- to organise that municipal departments and civil society meet and draft local action programmes;
- wards to meet in two weeks' time and establish regular ward meetings to address GBV;
- that the men's sector address economic justice programmes;
- to revive sport and culture;
- to hold monthly meetings to establish Street Champions.
The dialogue was also joined by the Sarah Baartman District Executive Mayor Deon De Vos, who also joined the dialogue on Women's Day, 9 August at the Masizakhe Community Hall.
Enthusiastic roleplayers in the men's movement attending the presentation.
