KAROO NEWS - Burglars were busy in Graaff-Reinet and Aberdeen during the period Thursday 18 August to Monday 26 August.
Six burglaries were reported to the police, where mostly electronic equipment was stolen.
Graaff-Reinet
Burglary residence
- A suspect broke into a home in Anemoon Street on 21 August, between 8pm and 11.30pm, and stole a DVD player and flat-screen TV.
- On the same day between 7.15am and 7.30pm, a fridge was stolen from a home in Ame Street, Umasizakhe.
Shoplifting
- A suspect was arrested on 20 August at 2.30pm after he stole cheese and a hair dlipper from a shop in Caledon Street.
- On 21 August at 5.08pm, a suspect stole a packet of headache powder from a shop in Graaff-Reinet.
Fraud
A man claims that between 19 and 20 August he deposited a substantial amount of money for a car, which had been seen advertised. When he phoned to confirm the payment, there was no response.
Theft out of a motor vehicle
- Jewellery worth R12 800 was stolen from a car in Caledon Street on the 20 August.
- Between 20 and 21 August, a bag with an iPod, earphones and sneakers was stolen from a car in Caledon Street.
Assault with grievous bodily harm
- A 47-year-old man was assaulted with a brick on 18 August at 10am on Oranje Street in Kroonvale. The suspect, who is known to the victim, was arrested.
- A 29-year-old woman from Umasizakhe said that on 22 August at 9.05am, her boyfriend stabbed her in her left arm with a knife. He then struck her head with a brick. She managed to call for help.
Robbery with a weapon
A man was walking in Umasizakhe on the 24 August at 5.40am, when two men drew their knives, threatening to stab him. One suspect took cash and a cellphone from the victim's pocket.
Aberdeen
Burglary residential
- An amplifier, hair clipper, cellphone, and cash was stolen from a house on Thangana Street on 24 August.
- A 71-year-old man, from Andries Pretorius Street, reports that on 21 August a portrait was stolen from his house.• On 20 August a man was resting at his home on Zingisa Street, after which he discovered his pants (which contained his cellphone) were missing. Entrance was gained through a bedroom window.
- A woman left her home on 23 August and when she returned the next day, her laptop was missing. Entrance was gained by forcing a window open.
- A cellphone went missing from a home in Church Street on 23 August. A sliding door was forced open.
