GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - Graaff-Reinet's Central Sport Club has been selected to participate in the 2025 Eastern Cape Super 16 Tournament from 8 February until 15 March.
The Eastern Cape Super 16 Tournament is an annual competition among the top eight clubs from Border and the Eastern Province Rugby Union (Epru).
According to Central Sport Club's general secretary, Roland Ludick, their participation in this tournament was made possible through their participation in last year's Epru Grand Challenge Top 12 League.
Although Central Sport Club finished 11th at this challenge due to several challenges, they were fortunate to be included in the Eastern Cape Super 16 Tournament after four other teams withdrew.
According to Ludick, the main challenges that they faced related to the availability of rugby fields in Graaff-Reinet and Epru funding.
"As a result of the issues with the sports facilities at the Collie Koeberg Stadium in Graaff-Reinet, there were two matches we couldn't play," says Ludick.
"Last year was quite tough, but hopefully we won't have issues with rugby fields in Graaff-Reinet this year as the municipality has allocated another R10m from its Municipal Infrastructure Grant budget for renovations to the complex."
Ludick says the inclusion of Central Sport Club in this year's Eastern Cape Super 16 Tourna-ment is a great milestone for them, as it is their first time competing in this prestigious competition.
Central Sport Club's first game will be against Alexandria's Trying Stars Sports Club at the Wentzel Park Sports Field in Alexandria.
