ABERDEEN NEWS — An Aberdeen man was murdered in the early hours of Saturday morning outside his house in Mossie Street, Lotusville.
The police received a call shortly after midnight that a man was being attacked in the street. On their arrival, they found 45-year-old Jan Beyers had been stabbed, and was lying on the ground in front of his house.
According to Beyers’ friend, who had been in the house with him, he had given Beyers R100 to go to the local tavern and buy two bottles of Brutal Fruit. Beyers managed to get back to his house, and told his friend that he had been stabbed, in the street.
He had already died when the police arrived at the scene. It appears that he had also been robbed, as he that the expected change on him from buying the drinks, but no drinks.
The investigating officer, Warrant Officer Naude Frazenburg, has appealed for any member of the community who witnessed the attack, or has any information, to contact him on 083 654 7885. It is believed that more than one man was involved in the attack.
There were three cases of malicious damage to property in the last week.
One involved a domestic dispute on a farm, and in another, a man, thought to be mentally disturbed, ripped a gate off its hhinges at a house in Bongelethu Street, Thembalesizwe.
The police requested that a case be opened in the latter incident, so that the suspect could undergo psychiatric evaluation. In the third case, a 22-year-old man was caught trying to remove roof beams from a property in Darling Street. The suspect is known, but has not yet been arrested.
A case of reckless and negligent driving was opened after a collision between three vehicles on the N9 between Aberdeen and Graaff-Reinet in the early hours of Saturday morning.
A Ford bakkie and Audi sedan were travelling towards Aberdeen, and a Quantum taxi in the opposite direction, when the collision occurred, about 20km from Aberdeen. The driver of the bakkie was seriously injured, and taken initially to Midland Hospital, from where he was transferred to a hospital in Port Elizabeth.
Statements are still to be obtained from the drivers and witnesses.
