KAROO NEWS - Two of the three local athletes who participated in the Eastern Province Athletics Cross Country Championships in St Albans last Saturday, took gold in their respective races.
The 15-year-old Endinako Jola from Klipplaat won the 6km race in a time of 19:58 minutes. Jola is a learner at Gcinubuzwe Secondary in Jansenville. Siyavuya Jeyi (18) from Jansenville Secondary won the 8km race in 19:21, while his co-learner Wynand Bambani ended in 8th position.
Jeyi and Jola will be representing the province at the upcoming SA Athletics Championships.
The three athletes were trained by Luthando Sikiwe who has been training athletes in Jansenville and Klipplaat for the past five years to keep them on the straight and narrow. Sikiwe says they have no sponsors and receive limited donations from individuals and businesses in the community. Despite this he managed to take eight athletes to the championships last year and three this year.
Those who would like to support Sikiwe and his athletes in any way, can contact him on 072 042 5229.
