GRAAFF-REINET NEWS — Country Mouse and the panel of judges are proud to announce the winners of the 2018 Graaff-Reinet Photographic Calendar Competition.
First place goes to Adele Botha for her welcoming photograph of a typical local Karoo scene, with an iconic windmill, palm tree, farmhouse and cement dam.
Second place goes to Johan du Plessis for his evening photograph over the town. This new take on a well-recognised view beautifully represents the town.
Third place goes to Morné van Jaarsveld for his image of the evening light over Camdeboo Conservancy with an aloe in the foreground - a familiar sight in the region.
Gawie Basson wins a runner-up prize for his photo of the old façade on the Graaff-Reinet Railway Station building, reminding people of the town’s heritage and internationally recognised architecture.
Nicola Beldon would like to thank, once again, all of those keen photographers who sent in their images.
She also thanks the following local companies for their support and sponsorship, which makes this calendar possible and promotes our town: Blue Magnolia, Blue Sky Express, Claudie Troskie Physiotherapist, Creative Stitches By Liesl, Graaff-Reinet Advertiser, GRT Brewery, Desert Springs Spur, H.A.J. van Rensburg Optometrist, Die Kudutjie, Merino Pharmacy, Montego Pet Nutrition, The Muller House, Polka, Prinsloo Photography, Three 16 Christian Bookshop, and Windmill Junction.
Country Mouse is in the process of printing and binding the calendars, and they will hopefully be available from Monday, November 27, at Country Mouse, McNaughton’s Bookshop, Blue Magnolia and Windmill Junction.
Orders can be placed at Country Mouse in Church Street or by emailing countrymousedesign@gmail.com.
The cost this year is R100 for the smaller A4 size and R120 for the larger A3 calendars. On each page, there is a large image with two smaller photos inserted. Each picture is captioned, so family and friends overseas or in the rest of South Africa can learn something about Graaff-Reinet, and the photographer is credited. The image takes up half the page, so that there is plenty of space to write in the date blocks.
