KAROO NEWS - Locals in search of a new read need to look no further than veteran SABC TV journalist Mike Proctor-Sim's new novel, Fracking Hell. Karoo residents opposed to fracking will appreciate Proctor-Sim's latest work, in which he does not attempt to hide his opinion on the matter.
"At the heart of this 377-page novel is a diabolical plan by ruthless international business interests," the author explains. " They want to destroy the already threatened biosphere in large parts of the Karoo and the Australian outback."
Frustrated by those opposed to their vision, the business interests turn to dirty tricks and employ rogue scientists and the ruthless Serbian mafia to accomplish their goals.
In a desperate attempt to save the Karoo, two embattled South African policemen, effectively banished to a tiny police station for spurious reasons, team up with two female Australian intelligence officers.
However, the ranks of the South African authorities are riddled with corruption and Australia has a mole in a high place within its government.
"But it is not all doom and gloom," Proctor-Sims assures. The pages are liberally sprinkled with humour and the author delves deeply into the personalities and backgrounds of the characters.
The novel is the second book penned by Proctor-Sims, the first being "Give it Horns Boet - Tales of lunacy from the Eastern Cape," published in 2015.
Mike Proctor-Sims, originally from Pretoria, lives in Port Elizabeth with his wife Cecile, three dogs and a cat.
