KAROO NEWS - The Lady Elizabeth Finishing School recently hosted a five day training workshop for 40 young women from Graaff-Reinet and surrounds.
The ladies were taught hospitality, culinary and life skills and then their hard work were put to the test last Thursday evening during their student showcase dinner at Huis Eybers.
The school's mission is to teach young women the necessary hospitality, culinary and life skills to make a success of their lives.
Sanri Vosloo, the co-founder, chef and event designer of Lady Elizabeth Finishing School, says as descendants of South African writer, teacher and Christian pastor, Dr Andrew Murray, education, charity and upliftment runs in their blood. "We have been woven together through generations to serve. The youngest daughter of Dr Murray, Elizabeth, was a true visionary for upliftment, starting Neethlingshof School for Girls. This school widely impacted young girls and set the base for more missionary endeavours," Vosloo says.
"The Murrays lived not only for evangelism but had an undeniable calling to teach and help and bring the lost home to the Lord." She said the Murrays founded Grey College, Paul Roos Gymnasium, Eunice Girls High School, Afrikaans Hoër Seunskool, Morgenzon Sendingstasie, and many more.
"If we can give a young woman the tools to walk into a florist, with not a cent to her name, and she can assist the florist because she has the know-how to clean a rose and to bind a bouquet, then we have given her a chance to build a life. The same goes for culinary skills, social skills, front-of-house skills, waiter etiquette and much more," Vosloo says.
All the items and trainers for the five day work shop were brought to Graaff-Reinet from Middelburg in Mpumalanga, a costly affair.
