GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - The Graaff-Reinet community is mourning the loss of Colleen Buckle (14 January 1954 - 4 November 2025), who for more than 17 years was a dedicated and much-loved part of Camdeboo Hospice.
Colleen and her husband, Clive Buckle, moved to Graaff-Reinet many years ago with their three young children, seeking the town’s dry climate to aid the health of one of them.
Clive established TAC Electrical, while Colleen soon found her purpose through community service.
She began volunteering at Camdeboo Hospice in 2004, quickly becoming an integral member of the team.
Her dedication led to a permanent position as administrative assistant, fundraiser, and manager of the Hospice’s popular bric-a-brac and book outlet.
Known for her infectious laugh and creative energy, Colleen’s presence brightened every project she undertook.
“Colleen was a gem - her creativity and enthusiasm for fundraising were unmatched. From knit-a-thons to silent auctions, she always had fresh ideas,” recalled Gerald Buisman, president of the Graaff-Reinet Lions Club, who worked closely with her over the years.
After retiring in 2021 due to ill health, Colleen moved to Edenhof, where she spent her later years surrounded by care and friendship.
Martie Bekker, manager at Edenhof, described her as “a real lady whose life was guided by Christ. She was cheerful, loving, and a true survivor who inspired everyone around her”.
Colleen was eagerly looking forward to celebrating her 72nd birthday in January 2026. “Her life has been a blessing to many,” Bekker said.
A celebration of Colleen’s life will take place on Saturday 15 November at 10:00 at the Freedom Church in Graaff-Reinet.
May her gentle spirit and joyful laughter continue to inspire those whose lives she touched.
