Christmas Carols at Trinity on Sunday

GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - Join Trinity Methodist Church in Caledon Street, Graaff-Reinet, this Sunday 19 December at 09:00 for music ministry and another opportunity to sing the familiar Christmas carols.

The service will be led by Jenie Oliver, known as The Cross plus Nothing.

Graaff-Reinet dwellers are by now familiar with The Cross Plus Nothing and its music ministry, says Mariana Evans of Trinity Church. Jenie and her late husband Derek ministered once a year in the area and after his passing Jenie continued, albeit on her first-love instrument, the piano, and not guitar.

Lockdown saw a new love blooming and Jenie married David Knott-Craig, son of Arthur and Jenny.

Jenie says this past year has seen new developments for The Cross Plus Nothing ministry. The women's ministry expanded and she, together with a team of ladies, did outreach at The Ark and City of Refuge in Cape Town.

"In fact, this year, the focus has been very much on reaching the outsiders and broken,” she says. “We saw people released from anxiety and other issues, new commitments to God, wonderful spiritual growth and the raising up of others in their gifting and callings. Each week, numbers were added and like the Acts Church, we had a weekly meal in our home as well as ministry, sometimes having others come in to share."

Evans says this time of the year - and especially as we face various challenges, including Covid - people need encouragement. “Music is a powerful tool to bring comfort and communicate the true meaning of Christmas and the impact it can have on our lives,” she says.

The Trinity's Christmas Day service on Saturday 25 December will be at 08:00.
