GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - The first step in establishing a place of safety and opportunity for the blind will be taken on Sunday with the official launch of the Graaff-Reinet Blind Care Society.
Establishing a safe environment for his 87 members is a passion and lifelong dream for pastor Thando Petu Ka-Ngqele.
The launch is at 13:00 at the Te Water Gedenksaal in Bourke Street on Sunday 26 June. Among the guest speakers are Loyiso Seyise from the Nkosinathi Foundation in Port Elizabeth and Sheila May, an activist from Aberdeen.
Pastor Thando told Graaff-Reinet Advertiser he is "over the moon" that the big moment has finally arrived.
"A facility, like the Graaff-Reinet Blind Care Society, has been a dream forever and will greatly assist our blind members who are reliant on family, friends or an organisation to be established like ours.
"I cannot wait for Sunday for the official launch. It's been my aim to provide the blind and other visually impaired persons (VIP's) in the greater in Graaff-Reinet area with specialised skills development and employment opportunities that will enhance their lives so that they can become independent, self-sufficient and empowered members of society."
The Graaff-Reinet Blind Care Society is a non-profit, community-based service organisation that supports blind and visually impaired persons in Graaff-Reinet and its surrounds.
