GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - The organisers of the annual Graaff-Reinet Calendar photography competition would like to thank all those, both young and not so young, who entered their photographs into the competition for the 2019 calendar.
This year the calendar is being produced by Country Mouse Design and Prinsloo Photography, divisions of Karoo Marketing. The combination of well-known local photographer Charlene Prinsloo's input with Nicola Beldon's design skills should raise the standard of this year's calendar even higher.
The judges this year were Nicola Beldon, Charlene Prinsloo, Liesl Heunis, Anziske Keyster, and Kim Imrie. There was much deliberation amongst the judges, due to the wide range of subject matter and expertise. The final choice as winner of the 2019 Photographic Competition is Nantie Stols for her photograph of a hot air balloon flying low over the snow-covered Lootsberg pass. The overall composition and unusual subject of this photo clinched the award!
Second place goes to Robert Kingwill for his striking farm scene with the majestic Compassberg in the background. The photograph shows a shepherd on horseback, with a border collie herding cattle up a farm road.
Third place is awarded to Sinja de Swardt for her natural photograph of children swimming in a rainwater puddle in Mandela Park.
The judges also liked Kitty Viljoen's photograph, which was seen by thousands on Facebook, of giraffes in the snow, as well as Chevonne Prinsloo's shot of a fence post at sunset, and Gawie Basson's black and white photograph of a farm gate.
The calendar, which will have 12 full-page colour photographs, will be available from selected local outlets from the end of the month. It will be available in A3 size for R150 and A4 for R120.
