GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - As 2020 comes to a close, Graaff-Reinet Advertiser will bid farewell to editor Paula-Ann Smit.
Smit will be returning to Johannesburg, after being awarded a bursary to continue her part-time Master's in Journalism degree at the University of Stellenbosch.
She will continue writing as a freelance editor for a UK-based gardening website, and as co-founder of the online lifestyle publication, blondieanco.com.
"Living and working in Graaff-Reinet has been a wonderful adventure," said Smit. "Thank you to all our readers and advertisers for supporting the newspaper and our various digital platforms."
Since Smit started at Graaff-Reinet Advertiser in June 2019, the paper's Facebook page has grown from around 9 000 followers to over 19 600. She also started an Instagram page for the Advertiser, which now stands at over 1 500 followers. During her time at Group Editors, she was awarded Digital Contributor of the Year.
"I am grateful for all the wonderful people I've met during my time in Graaff-Reinet, and look forward to visiting again soon," Smit concluded. "May the new year be a prosperous one for all."
Managing editor of Group Editors, Ilse Schoonraad, will oversee the management and production of the Advertiser in future.
