KAROO NEWS - Mvukile Eugene Pellem (44) who stands accused of murdering his grandmother, Nokwezi Gladys Sizani (93) on 11 September, appeared in court for his formal bail hearing on 27 October.
According to Col Priscilla Naidu, spokesperson for the police in the Sarah Baartman District, it is alleged that Pellem assaulted Sizani at her house in uMasizakhe, Graaff-Reinet, after she refused to respond to a request for money.
After the assault, Sizani was taken to the Midlands Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries four days later. According to Anele Ngoyo, chairperson of the Graaff-Reinet Community Policing Forum (CPF), Pellem may not have been the only person involved in Sizani's murder.
Naidu said a case of murder was opened when Sizani's relatives alerted police of the incident. Pellem was arrested on 13 September. He was released on bail of R200 and will appear in court again this Wednesday, 29 November.
