ABERDEEN NEWS — There has been a wonderful response from around the country to the plight of the farmers in the Aberdeen district during this time of severe drought.
A convoy of 17 trucks from the Newcastle and Vrede area recently delivered an assortment of fodder to Wynlaagte, the farm belonging to Louis Lategan, from where it will be distributed. There are bales of different grasses in assorted sizes available, as well as bags of mealies. So far, about 30 loads of partly-donated food have been distributed.
There is a large fuel bill still to be paid, as well as the cost of hiring some of the trucks used- but at least there is fodder for the livestock. There is a possibility that there will be another 40-50 trucks in the coming weeks.
Lategan has made appeals on behalf of the Aberdeen farmers on social media and several radio programmes, most recently on RSG.
