ABERDEEN NEWS — A case of robbery was opened after a man was attacked and robbed in Hope Street, walking home to Thembalesizwe from the bottle store, on September 8.
Two men approached him, threatened him with a knife and assaulted him. Wine and cash were taken, to the value of R100. Two youths, aged 19 and 20, were arrested and have appeared in court. The case has been postponed until September 14.
Between 23:30 on September 7 and 06:15 the next morning, a water pump valued at R3 600 was stolen from the load bin of a bakkie parked in Zuma Avenue, Thembalesizwe. No arrests have yet been made, and the case is still under investigation.
On Sunday, just before 13:00, a 31-year-old man was arrested in De Vos Street, Lotusville, for being in possession of suspected stolen property. The case has been postponed until September 14.
On August 31, a 20-year-old man was arrested for possession of 324g of dagga in Kudu Street, Lotusville. During the arrest, a police vehicle was damaged, and a police official assaulted. Members of the community blocked the entrance to the house when the police wanted to leave with the suspect. The case has been postponed until September 28 for further investigation.
Blue Door Café was broken into sometime during the early hours of September 7.
Owners Petro and Deon Hurter, who stay in a cottage behind the café, received a notification from the alarm company during the night that the power supply had been interrupted, but were asleep. On waking at about 04:00, they discovered that there was no power in the cottage, but assumed it had just tripped.
When they got up and checked soon after 06:00, they discovered that the whole building, including the guest house and café, was without power. On further investigation, they found that the window into the scullery, on the side of the building, had been broken, and the burglar bars pushed in. A wheel spanner was found outside the window. Money from a petty cash tin and a small float was taken, as well as some meat, wine, and cooldrinks, with a total value of approximately R4 000. There are no suspects at this stage.
