NIEU-BETHESDA NEWS - ‘Die Waenhuis’ is excited to announce that their 5th annual Christmas in July function will take place THIS SATURDAY and this year’s event is not to be missed.
Organisers select a unique theme each year, and this time they celebrate in true Baroque style. Guests are encouraged to dress up according to the theme, with prizes for the best dressed up for grabs.
As always, Chef Chris stands at the head of the delicious menu which includes Gluwein and snacks, lamb shanks, seasonal veges and chocolate brownies and ice-cream.
The Baroque period is famous for music, art and literature (think Rubens, Bernini, Hals, Rembrandt and Bach). Meaning “imperfect pearl” this period was epitomised by complicated, rounded, full bodied art and music using contrast, movement, exuberant detail, grandeur and surprise. This year, ‘Die Waenhuis’ has the privilege of hosting acclaimed organist Arnu Oelofse as the surprise addition to their celebrations.
Jacques Muller, owner of ‘Die Waenhuis’ says, “This year we would like to give back to our community who have supported us over the years and have arranged an evening organ recital. Our town’s beautiful Church and organ have such historic value and we find great joy in being able to expose our local community and visitors to such a unique performance”. The organ recital is open to the public (not only those who will be attending Christmas in July) and will start at 7pm in the Dutch Reformed Church in Nieu-Bethesda on 28 July 2018.
Arnu Oelofse was Born in Port Elizabeth on 27 May 1994. He started his music studies in Piano at Sunridge Primary School under the leadership of Paul Byrnes and continued his piano studies at Framesby High School under the leadership of Marissa Roodt and Zeta Strydom. In the latter part of 2009 he started organ tuition under Benji de Lange and continued his organ studies under Sulani Heunis at the Nelson Mandela University from 2010.
In 2013 He started his BMus degree at NMU with organ as his major. He continued his studies under Sulani Heunis and then later Devandre Boonzaaier and graduated in 2016 with a distinction for his organ final exam.
He was also organ scholar at St Mary’s Cathedral in Port Elizabeth under the direction of Justin Stone. While at the cathedral he received master classes from European organists.
Arnu will treat a fortunate audience to a wonderful recital on the historic organ in Bethesda’s beautiful NG Kerk. Pieces will include: Toccata in D minor ( JS Bach), Adagio in G Minor (T Albinoni ) as well as arrangements of ‘We Three Kings’ & ‘Joy to the World’
So make your way to Bethesda this Saturday evening for a night to remember. Tickets are R300 per person (for Christmas in July) and limited seating is available. For more information and tickets, contact Jacques Muller on 082 497 2138 or jox.dsgn@gmail.com.
