GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - Two friends from Graaff-Reinet died yesterday after allegedly consuming toxic muffins at one of their homes in uMasizakhe. It is believed that the muffins were given to them by another friend.
It is reported that one of the victims died yesterday afternoon shortly after eating the muffin, before he could be taken to hospital.
The second victim was rushed to the Midland Hospital but died in the early hours of the morning due to organ failure, suspected to be caused by the poison.
A third friend was also rushed to Midland Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.
The poisoning occurred at one of the victims' homes in uMasizakhe, Graaff-Reinet where the other friends were visiting.
The friend who supplied the muffins apparently apparently did not eat any of the muffins himself, and police are urgently trying to locate him for questioning.
Graaff-Reinet Advertiser is awaiting an official statement from the South African Police Service and more information from one of the victims' family members which will be published as soon as it is received.
The identities of the victims are known to the Advertiser but will only be published later.
