KAROO NEWS - Drought, rain and water are hot topics central to the drought-stricken Karoo.
These topics will be explored in Somerset East-born artist Bretten-Anne Moolman's work in the upcoming exhibition Promise of Rain at Imibala Gallery at the Drostdy Hotel, Graaff-Reinet.
Moolman, who has a fond memory of Karoo rain "and the sense of relief from the unrelenting heat," will showcase a new body of work About Rain.
Her paintings, and various other media engage with rain, its effect on land, its ability to bring life and to be a destructive force.
This renowned artist will be joined by selected local artists, such as Duncan Stewart, Hein Botha, Joanne Reen, Janet Dixon, Curt Martheze and many more.
"We're excited to be able to showcase a national artist alongside an opportunity for respected local artists to show their work in an exhibition with an intriguing diversity of expressions of the meaning of the promise of rain," said Graaff-Reinet Imibala Gallery curator, Kim Imrie.

A multi-media sequence, taken by the people of Graaff-Reinet, will also be featured.
"It showcases the suffering of the drought alongside the gift of rain, adding to an already special exhibition" Imrie explained.
Promise of Rain opens on Friday 14 February at 6pm at the Imibala Gallery at 30 Church Street, Graaff-Reinet.
The exhibition is open to the public from 14 February to 10 May, from 8.30am to 5pm daily.
