GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - Graaff-Reinet's well-known poet, novelist, scriptwriter and illustrator, Oskar Prozesky, will be celebrating his birthday on a special way.
Prozesky, who has already written 25 books, including five volumes of poetry, will on 25 April at 18:30 holding a sale of his books at Edenhof, on the corner of Somerset and Cradock Streets. He said all his friends and all bibliophiles are invited to attend the sale. Prozesky will donate a portion of the takings to the SPCA.
He will entertain the people by reading a few poems and one of his own short stories., which he wishes to dedicate to the SPCA.
His parents are remembered by many older people in town. His father, Herman, was a lecturer at the former a Teachers College and his mother, Mary was a teacher of English at the Hoër Volkskool.
Oskar himself matriculated at Union High School in 1964. He was placed first in the countrywide Senior Taalbond Examination in Bilinguasm that year. He went on to study at Stellenbosch, earning the BA, BA Honours and MA degrees in German. He taught German at the University for four years. he went on to teach mainly English at various Cape schools and completed his studies for the degree of PHD through Natal University.
He then completed his teaching career as English Master at Union High.
Oskar continues to write, which include a series of three historic novels.
