GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - Matthew Te Water Naude, whose great-grandfather Alfred and grandfather Theo were both GPs in Graaff-Reinet, kept up tradition when he recently graduated as a doctor from the University of Cape Town (UCT).
"He obtained his degree with distinction in both basic and clinical sciences, and the degree with first class honours," said Matthew's proud father Jim, also a doctor, making Matthew the fourth consecutive generation of Te Water Naude doctors.
To add to the significant occasion, Jim, a Public Health Medicine specialist and honorary senior lecturer at UCT, was honoured to hood his son at the graduation ceremony.
Jim's siblings Johann and Jillian (Matthew's uncle and aunt) also graduated from UCT with MBChB, and Johann went on to obtain a PhD in Medical Biochemistry.
"Johann's eldest Anna graduated from Cambridge University as a medical doctor in 2018, and her sister Rebecca will graduate as a medical doctor from Oxford University in 2021," Jim explained.
