LIFESTYLE NEWS - Following the IFP’s lengthy campaign to legalise the manufacture and use of medical cannabis in South Africa, the first steps in the legalisation have been taken
According to a report in The Mercury, the Medicines Control Council’s working group on cannabis submitted a letter to IFP MP Narend Singh, which said that the council would publish its proposed guidelines on cannabis production and its medicinal use shortly.
The party said that it wanted to help make cannabis oil available at a reasonable price for patients who chose to use it for medical reasons. “It should not be an exclusive drug of choice for those who have the money,” Singh told the paper.
The guidelines from the council will outline the manufacture of medical cannabis, how it should be used, and how it should be prescribed.
The use of cannabis for recreational purposes will, however, remain illegal in South Africa.
