GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - This past Friday, 24 August, Union High School held their annual Winter Awards Assembly to reward those learners who have excelled during the winter season.
Amongst others, the Prefects and Representative Council of Learners for 2019 were also announced. Union congratulates these learners, and at the same time thank them for their commitment to the school and hard work during the season.
The following learners received awards in their specific categories:
Sports awards
An Achievement Bar for tennis was awarded to Leah Marais and Anna Pringle.
Lonwabo Hanabe and Chuma Sobantu received Merit Certificates for rugby.
Laythan Carelse was awarded an Achievement Bar for rugby.
Team Awards for rugby were awarded to Ben Kroon, Damon Fouche, Cleathon Koeberg, Luke McNaughton, Matteo Mahona, Zusakhe Ngwane, Ikhona Koeberg (Re-award), Daliwonga Mathiale (Re-award), Olwethu Ngcai (Re-award) and Mthawelanga Mzimba (Re-award).
Half-colours for rugby was earned by Gary Shell, Breyton Damons and Sibongiseni Baatjies, while Colours for rugby were awarded to Michael Krige, Jason Beaumont, Terrence Siyaya, Iviwe Ndamane, Ronan Retief, Cowan Swartz, Luthando Skapu, Matt Harpur, Thando Haarmans and Matthew Broeksma (Re-award).
A Merit Certificate for hockey was presented to Sonwabise Mroro, Leah Marais and Tayla Kingwill and an Achievement Bar for hockey was awarded to Brigette Oelofsen.
Team Awards for hockey were awarded to Chelsea Theron, Christine Harris, Jade Shires, Marche Green, Simbongele Booysen and Sanja Du Plessis (Re-award).
Half-colours for hockey were earned by Kiah Hoffman and Kelly Rose-Innes, while Colours for hockey were awarded to Henze Jaftha (Re-award), Simamkele Desemela (Re-award), Yente Retief (Re-award), Rebecca Langmead (Re-award), Candice Russell (Re-award), Micela Loock (Re-award) and Jenna Mcnaughton (Re-award).
The Excelsior Award for hockey was presented to Chloe Shires.
