MIDDELBURG NEWS - Karooroos Padstal’s Karoo-burger was crowned the winning dish of the 2018 Middelburg Celebrity Cook-off.
The first-ever cook-off, held in conjunction with the Middelburg Agricultural Show this past weekend, was by all accounts, a raging success.
Attendees witnessed five of the towns’ restaurants cooking off against each other for the best “signature dish”.
Celtis Country Lodge, Kliphuis Koffiekan, Picadilli’s, Vivere, and Karooroos Padstal were the five contestants and each gave an outstanding performance delivering the most delicious and beautifully presented dishes.
While the contestants were cooking up storm in the background, celebrity cooks Louzel and Lani Lombard, a mother-daughter duo from True Living in Cradock, entertained the crowd with food demonstrations.
Their four taste dishes - paired with four flavours of Everson’s Craft Ciders - were served to guests in the beautiful farmers’ market-style decorated hall at the Middelburg Showgrounds.
Lani and Louzel’s taste menu was mouth-wateringly delicious, with them demonstrating how to make everything from almond sweet salami, warthog sausage, to cinnamon and pecan nut nougat.
Appreciation goes out to everyone who bought a ticket to the event – which sold out by the way - as well as to all the contestants who made the day so special.
The cook-off’s organisers are also immensely grateful to all the following sponsors: Middelburg Spar, Desert Inn, Nguni Country Lodge, Stefan Erasmus, PSG, GBG, Rose Bilbrough (GoTravelbug blogger), Anjoret van Niekerk and Sanlam.
