GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - The eagerly anticipated annual Windpomp Run will be held on Saturday, September 30 - athletes from Graaff-Reinet and further afield will have the choice of the prestigious half marathon, a 10km run or walk, and a 5km Fun Run.
This is the fourth year that the Graaff-Reinet Running Club has hosted the event, and the varied route through the mountains, the Camdeboo National Park, and the architecturally rich town of Graaff-Reinet must be one of the most diverse on the running calendar.
The half marathon route starts at the top of the Ouberg Pass on the R63, with 6km of steep descent before a more gradual slope takes the runners to the gates of the Camdeboo National Park.
The route continues through the Park, with its abundance of wildlife, then across the wall of the Nqweba Dam and through the streets of Graaff-Reinet.
The finish will be at the Botanics Sportsground, where the Karoo-lus Festival events will be in full swing. An added bonus for competitors is that the entry fee includes admission to the festival for Saturday!
The entry fees this year are R120 for the 21.1km half marathon, R100 for the 10km run/walk, and R70 for the Fun Run. T-shirts are available at R120.
Entries can be made online at www.whereinpe.co.za/sport (a R5 surcharge admin fee is payable), or locally at Brian Bands Sports, Montego Head Office and Nommerpas.
More information can be obtained from Rozelle Köhne on 049 891 0825 during office hours.
