GRAAFF-REINET NEWS — Too often, money collected for charity doesn’t reach its intended beneficiaries.
However, that is not the case with money raised during Casual Day.
Casual Day is South Africa’s foremost fundraising campaign for persons with disabilities and is the flagship project of the National Council of and for Persons with Disabilities (NCPD).
This year it is being held on Friday, September 1. The day is themed, 'Celebrate diversity'.
To earn the right to dress up this way, participants make a donation of R10 for the official Casual Day sticker. Not only does Casual Day raise funds, it also raises awareness of opportunities for full inclusion of persons with disabilities into the community.
Casual Day has become a firm favourite on the calendar of many of Graaff-Reinet's businesses, with some sponsoring stickers for their entire staff complement.
All the funds collected will be donated to specific organisations for the disabled.
This year the Graaff-Reinet Protective Workplace is on that list.
“The money collected goes to sustaining organisations for disabilities, providing education shelter, assistive devices, transport and accommodation to the persons with disabilities in their care,” said Andrea Vinassa, Casual Day communications officer.
Casual Day stickers will be available at Jet, Absa, Shoprite and at the Graaff-Reinet Protective Workplace in Graaff-Reinet until August 31. Orders can also be placed forgolf shirts, caps or bucket hats before August 4.
For more information, contact the Protective Workplace at 049 892 3244 (mornings only).
