GRAAFF-REINET NUUS - Wally Koetaan of Graaff-Reinet Bowling Club remained unbeaten throughout the weekend of bowls at the EP Senior Singles in Gqeberha, going for gold and claiming the EP Men's Senior Singles title.
An elated Koetaan told the Advertiser a good friend told him "Vat vas" and this is exactly what he did. "Four matches unbeaten and the gold is mine!"
Well done, Wally! You did Graaff-Reinet and the entire Eastern proud.
In the Ladies' Open Singles, Barbara van Zyl of Middelburg Bowling Club did well to grab bronze.
SPAR Handicap Pairs
Last Saturday afternoon 21 bowlers turned out in chilly conditions to take part in the ever-popular SPAR Handicap Pairs competition at the Graaff-Reinet Bowling Club.
As there was an odd number, Hansie Jordaan - president of the club and the sponsor, decided to sit out and play 'tea guy' for the day.
Riana du Toit and Rick Beagley, together with Ivor Wakeford and Chris de Klerk recorded the biggest winning margins, while Robert Scott had the most touchers.
This weekend
A fair contingent of bowlers from Graaff-Reinet and other Karoo towns will converge on the Cradock Bowling Club's greens on 29 and 30 April to compete in the Midlands Mixed Pairs competition.
Barbara van Zyl earned bronze in the EP Open Singles.
