NIEU-BETHESDA NEWS — While many people drive their recyclable waste into Graaff-Reinet as it builds up, the lack of a facility of this nature in the village of Nieu-Bethesda leads to a large amount of aluminium, paper and glass ending up in the dump at the top of the Doornberg Pass, or simply tossed into the streets and the furrows.
It is therefore good news for the village that a small recycling depot has been set up in the courtyard behind 'Die Winkel'.
The recycling centre has been set up by concerned villagers Justin Duckitt and Francois Marais of CUER projects.
Well-loved villager, Anton Pipes, will assist with sorting goods as they are offloaded.
Justin says that they are working in conjunction with Graaff-Reinet Recyclers who will drive out and collect the recycled items for cash. This cash will then be collected for a community project.
All tins, bottles, plastic and paper should be well cleaned, separated and placed into the bins which will be open on Fridays from 08:00 to 09:00.
If, however, one needs to drop off items at another time, a key is available from Saju at 'Die Winkel'.
It is hoped that everyone will make use of this facility in a bid to recycle precious resources, provide employment and revenue, and to reduce the amount of waste in Nieu-Bethesda.
