GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - In April 2017 the Graaff-Reinet vehicle testing centre was closed due to damage caused to equipment during a storm, and it has taken over two years for the municipality to finally reopen the centre.
An announcement earlier this month informed the local communities that the equipment has been repaired and upgraded, and that the vehicle testing centre is now fully operational again. However, as there is a vacancy for a vehicle examiner, they will only be operating on an appointment basis.
Appointments can be made telephonically on 049 807 5746 or by visiting the testing station. At present, appointments are readily available, and applicants can usually be accommodated on the same day. Each appointment will be for half an hour, allowing 12 vehicles to be tested each day.
If a vehicle fails its roadworthy test, a further two free retests may be scheduled within the next two weeks. However, if the vehicle is still not deemed to be roadworthy, then the applicant will need to reapply and pay for another test.
If any problems are experienced, residents are urged to contact Chris Rhoode, Manager: Protection Services on 083 754 9908.
