GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - Union High School in Graaff-Reinet recently paid tribute to retiring teacher Rory Sullivan, who will soon bid his school career farewell after several decades.
The geography and history teacher (to name but a few subjects) is well-known for his rugby passion and the exceptional manner in which he coached multiple sports.
"He is one of those exceptional individuals who managed to shape, nurture and impact the lives of thousands of young learners in the most remarkable ways," spokesperson for the school, Mariëtte Burger, said about Sullivan, who matriculated from Union in 1969.
Before returning to his alma mater as a teacher in 1980, Sullivan taught at Grey Junior and Victoria West High School. He would go on the become the superintendent of Barnard House at Union. In 1989, Sullivan took a break from teaching but returned to Union in 1996.
He would go on to accept a post in Abu Dhabi in 2003 and coached rugby in the USA during 2004.
After his adventures overseas, Sullivan once again returned to Union, where he has been teaching ever since.
"In reality, we know that this goodbye is not really goodbye - we'll be saying hello often as he continues his association with the school as Herby Arnott House's Superintendent," Burger added, and wished Sullivan a happy retirement on behalf of the school.
