GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - Last month, Union High School awarded prizes to its top achievers.
Here are a few of the learners:
The top achievers in Grade 12: Zintle Maki (6th), Ethan Gedult (4th), Jenna McNaughton (4th), Megan Doyle (3rd), Sanja du Plessis (2nd) and Micela Loock (1st).
Jenna McNaughton receive: the Joy Arnott / Helen Watermeyer Trust Bursary to the head girl of the school, for her to do with as she liked as a memory of Helen Watermeyer. She also received the FA Kingwill Cup for All-Round Achievement, Mortimer Floating Trophy - Senior Girl, Pienaar Trophy for Open Girls’ Doubles Champions (with Micela Loock), Nora van Niekerk Trophy for the 1st Team Girl who has shown the Most Sportsmanship during the year, Biathlon (Best Girl), Pierre van der Merwe Floating.
Caytah-Leigh Koeberg was awarded with: Grade 7 2nd on Year, a merit certificate for chess, the Ron Dugmore Cup for Best Speaker, the Bernadette Palmer Cup for Best Actress, the Penny Family Shield for the girl exchange student(s), Oxenham Cup for Most Promising All-Round Junior Sportswoman, the Hazel van Niekerk Award for All-Round Achievement in Academic, Sport and Culture to a Grade 7 (boy or girl or both) who will continue their education at Union High School.
Alutha Wesi was awarded with: u.13 Victor Ludorum, UHS Shield for best fielder u.13, UHS trophy for the most promising cricket player, Justin Kingwill Trophy for the best all-round cricket player, certificate of merit for the best all-round player of the year, UHS Trophy for the most promising player, UHS trophy for u.13 Boys’ Cross-Country Champion and a certificate of merit for the best back line player of the year.
Na’eem Mahomed was awarded with: a certificate of merit for learners who achieved an average of 80% or more in one or more subjects, a certificates of merit for learners who achieved an average of 80% or more for the year, Old Unionite Shield for the Dux Student (1st on Year in Grade 7), a merit certificate for the most promising chess player, Harwood Dixon Trophy for the Chess Champion, the Alistair Kingwill Cup for the Best Actor, and the Hazel van Niekerk Award for All-Round Achievement in
