GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - Half of Graaff-Reinet came to a halt yesterday morning after a sudden power outage hit the town.
The cause of the unexpected power outage was yesterday identified as two underground electrical cables and an overhead conductor which were faulty.
While power to some areas were restored late last night, certain areas of Graaff-Reinet, including Church Street, are still without power this morning.
Councillor Samantha Graham gave an update on the situation earlier today, stating that the municipality worked through the night and managed to repair one of the cables completely.
“This means that some folks have had their electricity restored. Sadly, there are still two cables that are faulty.”
According to Graham, a specialist company is en route from Port Elizabeth to help resolve the issue.
“Their intervention will speed up the whole process and repairs to the other two cables should be quicker today.”
No indication was given as to how long the power will still be off.
