GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - Maria Links (50) burned to death in her Hillside, Umasizakhe, home on Monday 4 November.
Graaff-Reinet SAPS Spokesperson, Captain Bradley Rawlinson, said it is alleged that her husband, Tienie, left the home at 1am to buy refreshments. "[During that time], the house caught fire and Maria burned to death," said Rawlinson.
Maria was declared dead on the scene by medical personnel.
The police have opened an inquest docket and the cause of the fire remains unknown.
The Advertiser visited the scene and spoke to eyewitnesses. People who wish to remain anonymous said Maria was asleep on a couch in the lounge when the house caught fire. The police did not want to give more information, stating that the investigation is at a sensitive stage.
The entire inside of the house, including the furniture, was destroyed in the fire.
