Two people have lost their lives while two sustained severe injuries in a head-on collision involving a Toyota Corolla and a Toyota Avanza on the R409 road in Tsomo just before the 40-junction.
The crash occurred at about 4:00 today, 26 December. The Corolla with two males from Tsomo collided with the Avanza, also with two male males from the 40-junction direction.
Both occupants of the corolla died on the scene while the two occupants in the Avanza sustained severe injuries. Jaws of live had to be used to free them from the wreckage and were taken to Cofimvaba Hospital for medical attention.
Unathi Binqose, spokesperson for the Department of Transport in the Eastern Cape says that it is alleged that driving under the influence of alcohol cited as main contributed factor for the crash.
A case of culpable homicide has been opened at Tsomo Police for further investigations.
