KAROO NEWS & VIDEO - A massive wind turbine blade on its way to Prieska got stuck in the rock face next to the R61 at the Aberdeen/Beaufort West crossing on Wednesday 17 March at about 12:00 noon.
Apparently the back wheels of the massive heavy vehicle are controlled remotely as the driver of the heavy vehicle needs assistance from back-up vehicles to manoeuvre its precious load around corners.
It seems the angle was misjudged causing the back wheels to slid into the ditch next to the road and the blade into the rocky ridge next to the road.
An employee of the transport company, Absolute Wind, said the ill-fated wind turbine blade was the last of the blades transported from Port Elizabeth to the new wind farm near Prieska.
On completion the wind farm will consist of 34 turbines with 102 blades.
