Aberdeen and SAPS meeting: 10 October
Follow-up community meeting with SAPS in Aberdeen at 2pm in the library hall.
Details will be given about upcoming CPF election, and the selection of candidates for this.
Representatives from SASSA, education, social development and churches will also be invited to the meeting. Items for discussion will include the issue of children roaming the streets.
Roses of Hope for Cancer project: 18 October
The lawns of the Groot Kerk in Graaff-Reinet will be transformed into a rose wonderland from 7am until 6pm. The project, initiated by the Graaff-Reinet Cancer Association, plans to take hands with residents and plant 2 000 artificial pink roses attached to sosatie sticks. The rose closest to a predetermined secret spot will win its owner R5 000.
Orders for roses can be placed at Blue Magnolia Nursery, Merino Pharmacy or Brian Bands for R20 each. All roses are numbered and must be collected on the day at the church where they will be planted by their purchaser.
For those out of town or unable to attend, a cancer survivor will plant the rose. At 6pm the secret spot will be revealed and the winner of the prize announced.
Spandau Secondary School's Pink Tea: 24 October
This event hopes to raise funds for cancer sufferers and to put the spotlight on cancer awareness.
It will be held in Botanics Hall at 3pm.
A minimum donation of R50 per person is requested. All funds will be donated to the Graaff-Reinet Cancer Association.

St James' Flower Festival: 25 and 26 October
This year's theme for the annual festival is: Pots, Poetry and Prose to honour our God, the Potter and Provider.
"We would like people to bring arrangements of flowers, indigenous plants, cacti, fruit, herbs and even vegetables in pottery containers," said Jill Rose-Innes, one of the organisers.
These should be delivered to the church in Somerset Street any time from 8am on Thursday 24 October. Printed poetry and prose can accompany arrangements.The festival will be open to the public on Friday 25 October from 9am to 5.30pm, and on Saturday 26 October from 9am until 11.30am.
The tranquil garden of the church will be the setting for refreshments on the Friday. Tea and scones will be served during the morning and afternoon, and lunch from noon. No entrance fee, donations welcome.
