KAROO NEWS - The registered NPO, Hope For Education (HFE), presented a motivational event for Grade 12 learners of Asherville Secondary School on 25 August as part of the learners' annual events.
The leadership of HFE are related to the former Asherville principal TJ Green.
The founder of HFE, Marizanne Green, and the treasurer, Jeandré Ernest, are his daughters, while co-founder Annie Green is his wife, and the secretary, Gearné Green, his granddaughter.
The event took place at Profcon with the theme Reach for the Stars. Dr Muki Moeng (Deputy Vice Chancellor of NMU) and Elrich Jantjies (teacher at Union High School), both born in Graaff-Reinet, were the speakers.
The learners thoroughly enjoyed engaging in ice-breakers, educational activities and discussions.
The values of community, dignity, hopefulness and sense of belonging were discussed to give learners hope for the future and to motivate them for their upcoming exams.
The topics covered were: how to be a courageous person in life, leaving a legacy in your school community, and tools for the future.
"It really gives us great pleasure and it is an honour to know that we can plough back and start this annual event at a school which once was our second home," says Marizanne. "The school and the community will always be close to our hearts. Making a difference and empowering the youth definitely runs in the family."
HFE has been serving learners for the past three years, and their successes include seven School Readiness Box handovers, two toy drives, a Jar of Hope drive, two clothing drives and a ball drive.
Learners took a motivational word from the Wall of Motivation on their way out to carry with them through the exams.
