KAROO NEWS - The national matric pass rate for 2019 is 81.3%, up from 78.2% in the previous year, and learners across the Karoo celebrated their results on 8 January.
Two Karoo schools, Hoër Volkskool and Klipplaat Senior Secondary, achieved a 100% pass rate.
"We are so proud of the class, and for the talent they received to make this possible," said Volkskool principal, Theo Dörfling.
He added that the learners' success was a team effort. "Thank you to the teachers who worked hard to ensure that the learners would complete their school careers. Their success would also not be possible without the support of their parents and the community."
Fifty Volkskool learners wrote an passed the exam, of which 39 passed with admission to a bachelor's degree, and 10 can study towards a diploma.

The school's top achievers include Caitlin du Preez (7 distinctions), Linda Lötter (7 distinctions), Inge van Rooyen (6 distinctions), and Pierre van der Merwe (6 distinctions).
At Klipplaat Senior Secondary, only one learner wrote and passed the exam, to ensure the 100% pass rate. The Advertiser was unable to reach the school for comment in time for print.

According to the School Performance Report, released by the Department of Basic Education, the results of other local schools are as follows:
- Cradock High School: 98,6% pass rate (71 of the 72 learners that wrote the exam passed)
- Marlow: 97,3% pass rate (36 of the 37 learners passed)
- Middelburg High School: 96,6% (28 of the 29 learners passed)
- Union High School: 91,4% pass rate (64 of the 70 learners passed)
- Nqweba Senior Secondary: 87% pass rate (47 of the 54 learners passed)
- High School Jansenville: 86,5% pass rate (32 of the 37 learners passed)
- Asherville Secondary High School: 77,6% pass rate (38 of 49 learners passed)
- Spandau Secondary: 68,1% pass rate (64 of 94 learners passed)
- Aberdeen Senior Secondary: 43,5% pass rate (10 of the 23 learners passed)
- Willowmore Senior Secondary: 40,8% pass rate (20 of the 49 learners passed)
- Cookhouse Senior Secondary: 25% pass rate (5 of the 20 learners passed)
