GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - More and more water is finding its way to Graaff-Reinet via trucks. The much-needed donations by Gift of The Givers and partners are welcomed by locals, as taps continue to run dry.
While JM Landmann Borehole Specialists continues to drill for water, the Gift of the Givers for the fourth time partnered with other good Samaritans to assist the Graaff-Reinet community. On Thursday 24 October, they drove into town with 720 five-litre cans of water in Polyaok cans filled by Oasis Water in Uitenhage.
Under the supervision of Gift of the Givers, Oasis Graaff-Reinet also made sure that the water was delivered to those with the greatest need.
At the Margery Parkes Tuberculosis Hospital, Kroonvale Pre-Primary School and other needy institutions, water containers were filled and at some of the drilled boreholes, large containers were filled.
Local pig farmers also got their share of food for the pigs, together with water. Approximately 700 cabbages were delivered at the pig stalls.
Ali Sabley, Project Manager for Gift of the Givers, told the people that they must stay strong. "I know of four farmers in the Northern Cape that gave up and took their own lives, because of the devastating drought," he said. Sabley said they will be back with more donations, but there are many places in need, so they travel long distances to give a helping hand.
