CRADOCK NUUS - The parents of late Amy Bell (33), Larry and Ellen Bell of Midland Texas in the US, recently visited Cradock and gave donations to various organisations.
Bell, an avid equestrian, died unexpectedly from a pulmonary embolism in Texas in September 2014.
In memory of their daughter the Bells decided to do charitable work and established the Amy Bell Charity Fund with its roots deep in the Cradock community.
Tam's Safaries established the Amy Bell Charitable Trust and an old shed was turned into the Amy Bell Centre in Cradock. Since then several different institutions have been benefitting from these funds.
During a recent visit by the Bells to Cradock, these institutions received huge and very welcome donations.
At two primary schools, the Kude Kwalapha School and the JA Ncaca Primary School, additional classrooms were built.
The Bells also visited the new Amy Bell Children's Centre, as well as the Kwaknanya Aftercare Centre and the Ikamvala Good Care Centre for the disabled, where they donated signs.
They also unveiled the Ellen's Sewing Studio brass plaque at the original tool shed room where two seamstresses sew clothes for different charitable organisations all over the country.
On Friday evening, a fundraising event was held with former Springbok rugby star Morné Steyn as guest speaker.
An online auction, by auctioneer Marc Bunting from Kansas, was the highlight of the fundraising event. More than R1-million was raised during this auction.
