GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - Two wheelchairs, donated by the Taiwanese Government, were handed over by the DA to a 13-year-old boy and a women who is bedridden due to illness.
Samantha Graham-Maré, DA Member of Parliament and Constituency Leader for Dr Beyers Naudé, recently received a donation of two wheelchairs for their constituency through her interactions with the Taipei Liaison Office of the Taiwanese Government.
These were handed over to her by the director-general, David Yintso Lin, and the first assistant director, Douglas Chang, at their offices in Cape Town.
Through Sakkie van Zyl, the DA was able to organise that the wheelchairs be brought to Graaff-Reinet from Cape Town by Freddie van Coller.
The DA constituency executive had identified one beneficiary in Aberdeen early in the process and when Graham-Maré posted on Facebook about the receipt of the wheelchairs, Stuart Giyose who works with the Community Works Programme in the area, contacted her about a 13-year-old boy in 7de Laan, Graaff-Reinet who was in desperate need of a wheelchair.
The first wheelchair was handed over to Dorothy Bamba in Aberdeen. She is bedridden and a wheelchair was desperately needed to get her to the clinic and transport her to town.
The handover was done on Tuesday 21 June by members of the Dr Beyers Naudé Constituency.
The second wheelchair was handed over on Tuesday 28 June to Jordan-Lee Louw at his home. "Shortly after the handover, Jordan-Lee told us that this wheelchair moved really well, and he took off down the road," Graham-Maré said.
"We are deeply grateful for the kindness of the people of Taiwan."
