GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - Police detectives arrested a 36-year-old man on Tuesday 22 June for the alleged rape of a 12-year-old child in Umasizakhe on Saturday 19 June.
The child alleges that the suspect had dragged her into an outside room of her mothers' residence and raped her. The child managed to free herself and reported the rape to her father.
A rape case was opened at Graaff-Reinet Police Station after the rape was confirmed by doctors at Midlands Hospital.
The suspect is due to make his first court appearance at the Graaff-Reinet Magistrate’s Court today, Wednesday 23 June.
Graaff-Reinet Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit Commander, Captain Theo van Zyl, commended Detective Sergeant Valomia Abrahams for the successful arrest of the suspect.
