GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - Graaff-Reinet police arrested a 34-year old suspect on suspicion of murder after the body of a man, André Steenkamp (41), was found outside his house in Angora Street, Kroonvale, in the early morning hours of Saturday 24 April.
According to local police spokesperson, Capt Bradley Rawlinson, they were informed about the gruesome find by a woman sharing Steenkamp’s house.
“The resident alleged that she heard people talking outside the house after which she later found the deceased lying on the ground bleeding from his head,” Rawlinson said.
When paramedics arrived on scene they found the deceased had sustained multiple head injuries. The body of the deceased was removed to the Graaff-Reinet mortuary.
The suspect was arrested shortly afterwards.
Rape suspect arrested
A 41-year old man is facing charges of rape after an alleged incident at a home in Santaville on Saturday 25 April.According to police spokesperson, Capt Bradley Rawlinson, the local Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) is investigating the incident.
“It is alleged that the complainant (25) had gone to sleep at her friend's house where the suspect, who is the friend’s boyfriend, was visiting. The complainant woke up in the early hours of Sunday morning and had to be taken to the Midlands hospital as she felt very uncomfortable and was suffering tremendous abdominal pain. Here doctors found that she had allegedly been raped,” Rawlinson said.
A rape case was registered and the suspect was arrested.
