GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - The Graaff-Reinet Stoep Tasting event will take place from 11 to 13 September, and organisers say lockdown level two rules will be adhered to.
“The Karoo Wine Club has taken legal advice and been in touch with the SAPS,” said Rose Wright in a statement on behalf of the organisers. “They are of the opinion that the beloved event should proceed.”
No more than 50 people will be allowed per stoep, masks must be worn, and stoeps might also be spread further apart.
As it is an outdoor event, organisers say people will be easily able to socially distance themselves. “[We] are confident that producers and ticket holders will act responsibly throughout the weekend,” the statement read.
Due to the curfew of 22:00, tasting times will end earlier, but this is still to be announced.
Not all producers will be able to attend, as some face financial challenges and others are not willing to travel due to their older age, as they may compromise their health or that of their staff.
“This year will certainly be a very different Stoep Tasting. There is no telling how things will pan out,” the statement added. Based on the response from members of the public, organisers are, however, positive that it will be a well-supported event.
