GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - The Graaff-Reinet SPCA will live to see another day, despite initial worries last year that the organisation would have to close its doors.
According to SPCA Secretary Sonja Bouwer, the local SPCA's committee did not think that the organisation would last a year at the start of 2019.
"We thought it was the end of an era that we would tell our grandchildren about one day," Bouwer told the Advertiser.
However, thanks to kind-hearted donors, the SPCA survived. Now, they look forward to the opportunity to serve their community and its animals in 2020.
"If it was not for a list of selfless and dedicated sponsors (of which Montego made the largest monthly donations), we would now be saying goodbye," Bouwer explained.
"Thank you, we hope you will help us survive 2020 as well," Bouwer said, adding that a full list of donors will be available on the SPCA's website. Currently, the organisation needs dry pellets for dogs and cats, special pellets for puppies and kittens, Karbadust and Triatix.
Last year, the SPCA managed to find new homes for 35 animals and sterilise 58 animals. Between July and November, 1041 dogs and 11 cats were dipped and dewormed, and 55 complaints of cruelty were attended to.
