ABERDEEN NEWS - There were several cases opened by the Aberdeen police in the last week, the most serious of which was one of rape.
The guardian of two young girls reported that since the end of May last year, the two girls have been allegedly repeatedly raped by a man. On the first occasion, the girls said that he took them to a dam near Lotusville, made them smoke something (believed to be drugs) and then sexually assaulted them. The suspect has not yet been arrested.
Afrino lambs valued at R130 000 were taken from a farm in the Aberdeen district - this has been reported on in more detail in a separate article.
A case of reckless and negligent driving was opened by a member of Aberdeen SAPS after two vehicles collided at the intersection of the N9 and R61 just outside of the town. Both vehicles sustained damages, but fortunately there were no serious injuries.
Sometime, on the night of 5 April, a house was broken into, and a 32" Hi Sense television stolen from the spare room. The complainant found that the spare room door had been forced open.
On Sunday 7 April, the principal of Aberdeen Secondary School received a call that the alarm at the school had been activated. One of the classroom windows had been broken, and it seemed as though the book store room and staff room had been entered, but nothing has been reported missing at this stage.
A case of malicious damage to property has been opened by a resident of Kudu Street, Lotusville. The owner said that while he was sleeping, on the afternoon of 7 April, a man entered his house and threatened him, demanding furniture. When the owner refused, the man suspect broke three windows of the house and ran away. The 29-year-old suspect has been arrested.
A 60-year-old woman from Aberdeen reported that between 19 February at 10.00 and 5 March, she called a company from Tongaat to relocate. She received the quote for the relocation and transferred the money to the removal company's account. On Friday 5 April, she received a call from the removal company, saying that they had not received a payment yet.
When she in return forwarded the proof of payment to the removal company, it was discovered that the account into which the complainant had paid the money was not that of the removal company. A case of fraud has been opened.
The final case is one of assault with the purpose to inflict grievous bodily harm. The 22-year-old female complainant reported that while she and a friend were at a tavern in Bacon Street, Lotusville, a person arrived and started assaulting her by hitting her face several times. No arrest has yet been made.
There have been 16 arrests during the last week, most notably, three suspects for rape. Five suspects were also arrested for assault GBH, and six for common assault.
There was a further arrest for contravention of a protection order, and one for possession of drugs. Seven people were arrested for being drunk and disorderly.
