GRAAFF-REINET NEWS & VIDEO - Food parcels were handed out by Sassa this morning (22 April), to 29 families in need from Kroonvale, Graaff-Reinet.
Together with the food parcels, the families also received toiletries and other essential products.
The beneficiaries were identified by ward committee members of each municipal ward within the Dr Beyers Naudé Local Municipal district.
This morning's handouts were the first for ward 5, of which Glenda Mackelina is the ward councillor.
More than 29 families gathered in front of the Sassa office, with the expectation of receiving food parcels. With the police and army keeping an eye nearby, as well as enforcing social distance, Mackelina explained to the people that she was given names by her ward committee members, and these names were processed by Sassa, as beneficiaries.
Mackelina made it clear that there are no politics involved in the process and she understands that there are many needy families.
